Dr. Ken Wilson, KHC Co-Chair, Retires After Fourteen Years of Esteemed Service and Leadership

Kenneth Wilson

In 2019, Dr. Kenneth Wilson retired as the Co-Chairperson of the Kentuckiana Health Collaborative after four years of serving in this role. Dr. Wilson has been a member of the KHC since 2004, shortly after the organization’s inception in 2003. Kenneth Wilson, MD, MS, CPE, is the System VP of Norton Medical Group’s Quality & Physician Leadership Development. In this role, he has responsibility for quality programs and physician leadership development within Norton Medical Group. He is a member of the leadership team guiding the organization’s development of value-based systems. Beginning this month, he will transition to part-time work. Dr. Wilson joined Norton Healthcare in 2004 following 18 years of family medicine practice.

Dr. Wilson’s role in shaping and advancing the work of the KHC cannot be overstated. He was part of the initial group that designed the consolidated measurement reports in 2005 that is still a signature activity for the KHC today. Additionally, he helped shape the KHC’s early development of provider guidelines, its movement to a non-profit organization, its adoption of an employer coalition, its movement to public reporting of the KHC’s quality reports including those of his own providers, its promotion of value-based purchasing, its pursuit of a core healthcare measures set, and finally, its initiation of last month’s conversation around healthcare affordability. Dr. Wilson’s knowledge and expertise around ambulatory quality of care has been critical to shaping much of the KHC’s current measurement work, and his expertise will be greatly missed.

The KHC’s first annual report has an opening letter from the departing Co-Chair. You can read his remarks to the community on the first page of the report.

On December 4, 2018, Dr. Wilson received a leadership award from the KHC for his distinguished service. Dr. Wilson was well known for his integrity, commitment to service, and passion for advancing community health. These qualities made Dr. Wilson a key leader in shaping the KHC’s focus, approach, and success. Personally, he is simply a kind and compassionate human being.

As Dr. Wilson moves on to his next chapter, there is no doubt he will continue to spend his “downtime” doing mission work around the globe, most likely in Africa. His legacy will no doubt continue to shape the KHC for many years to come.
