What are you most excited about working on in the future around health and healthcare improvement?

I’m most excited about the possibilities. I’ve been in healthcare for over two decades, and my personal goal is to see a healthier community evolve before I retire! Now that everyone (schools, government, employers, non-profits, for profits) are all working towards the common goal of better health, I’m inspired that positive change is right around the corner for the entire region.

What do you see as the biggest threat to our community’s health? How do you feel it needs to be addressed?

Mental health is the biggest threat to our community’s health, especially now due to the drug epidemic. Like all public health issues, it needs to be addressed from a multitude of angles – with medical providers, employers, parents, and educators receiving more education and treatment resources to help address their needs.

Why do you think a multi-stakeholder coalition like the KHC is needed in the community?

The health and well-being of our region is a critical commodity to the success of our region. Having one entity that pulls everyone together for the common goal of improving the health and well-being of our region puts us ahead of other similar states and cities just starting to address the triple aim.

What is the KHC’s biggest contribution to improving community health and healthcare?

The KHC’s ability to be inclusive to all stakeholders in the health promotion arena gives it the ability to be a true change agent. Change can be slow and difficult. The KHC has the history, leadership, and fortitude to see us through to a healthier future.
