Despite the challenges created by the pandemic since early 2020, the last two years have set the stage for potentially the biggest shakeup in healthcare that we’ve ever seen. Providers, plans, purchasers, and consumers have been forced to rethink how healthcare is delivered.
The KHC 6th Annual Conference is using the momentum of this forced introspection to look ahead to the future of healthcare, focusing on value and equity. And for the first time since 2019, we’ll host the conference in person!
Program features two keynotes from national organizations
The Quest for Value and Equity: Mapping the Future of Healthcare, will feature national leaders, innovators, and disrupters as they map out the future of high quality, affordable, and equitable healthcare.
The morning’s program, focused on value, will kick off with The Leapfrog Group President and CEO Leah Binder. Most consumers and healthcare stakeholders are familiar with Leapfrog’s Hospital Safety reports; the non-profit watchdog group has been a driving force in the transparency of quality and safety of American healthcare for 20 years. The KHC has recently joined Leapfrog’s Regional Leader program, to assist in Leapfrog’s boots-on-the-ground efforts to advance participation in Leapfrog Surveys.
Binder will set the stage for the rest of the day and look ahead to the future of healthcare – where we’re going, where we need to go, and what we need to focus on to get there. She is a regular contributor to Forbes.com and other top tier publications. She has been named on Becker’s list of the 50 most powerful people in healthcare, and consistently cited by Modern Healthcare among the 100 most influential people and top 25 women in healthcare.
After lunch, the afternoon keynote will kick off the focus on equity in the latter half of the program. Charles Johnson, founder of non-profit organization 4Kira4Moms, will share his personal story of loss due to the failure of the healthcare system and charge the audience to change that system.
4Kira4Moms was founded with the mission to advocate for improved maternal health policies and regulations, to educate the public about the impact of maternal mortality in communities, provide peer support to the victim’s family, friends, and promote the idea that maternal mortality should be viewed, and discussed as a human rights issue.
Charles Johnson worked relentlessly with congress to pass the preventing maternal death act (H.R.1318). This milestone legislation is the first ever to combat the maternal death crisis in the United States. The bill was signed into law December 21, 2018 and dedicated to the memory of Kira Dixon Johnson.
Throughout the day, local, regional, and national employers and healthcare multi-stakeholders will discuss areas of concern and initiatives to resolve the complex issues related to advanced primary care and maternal care. We’ll also share information on the recent Consolidated Appropriations Act and other federal mandates that are changing the landscape of transparency in healthcare. We’ll cap the day with a discussion on including equity data with healthcare data to implement next generation analytics.
Safety is our top priority
We’re excited to be back in person for the 2022 conference. With an in-person conference in the midst of the continuing pandemic, special attention is being paid to provide a safe environment for stakeholders to gather in person. This includes creating distancing, vaccination, and masking policies for the event that align with federal recommendations. Details about these policies will be announced closer to the event date to remain as current as possible with the ever-changing COVID climate, but we have confirmed that proof of vaccination will be required for this event. The conference will be held in person and will only be moved to virtual if there is an emergency related to the pandemic.
