This event is part of a continued discussion on hospital price transparency and proposed actions on how to slow high-cost trends in healthcare. The session will include further details on the Sage Transparency Hospital Value Dashboard, a multi-stakeholder discussion of hospital costs and transparency, and a discussion of opportunities for employers and policymakers to ensure fair pricing.
According to the Petersen-KFF Health System Tracker data, hospital spending represented close to one-third (31.1%) of overall health spending in the United States in 2021. Retail prescription drug spend for the same period was 8.9% and physician/clinic spend was 20.3%. The same period showed the next largest healthcare spend (25.6%) was related to “Other Health” which includes spending on durable and non-durable products; residential and personal care; administration; net health insurance; and other state, private, and federal expenditures.
