According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, health equity is achieved when every person has the opportunity to attain their full health potential and no one is disadvantaged from achieving this potential because of social position or other socially determined circumstances.
Healthcare has too often blamed marginalized communities for their poor health outcomes, not recognizing its own role in creating and perpetuating systemic inequities and biases. The purpose of this series is to examine healthcare’s role and actions in ensuring equitable care and outcomes for all patients. This session will focus on cancer care.
